Safer Physical Intervention Training for Door Supervisors
Managing the risk of physical assault in the workplace
This course is ideal for you if:
- You are an SIA Door Supervisor Licence Holder but don’t yet have the physical interventions element.
- You manage staff who are SIA Licence Holders and need them to get this qualification.
All door staff who obtained a licence prior to the introduction of the new 2010 qualification will need to complete an SIA approved level 2 award in Physical Intervention training before renewing their SIA badge. On successful completion delegates will be issued with a Maybo certificate, accredited through City & Guilds, BIIAB, or Skills for Security.
This unique physical skills programme is simple, effective and above all lower in risk for both door staff and those being held. Skills taught have been legally and medically reviewed and have earned credibility across all sectors for their safety and efficacy.
In just 2 days you will learn how to:
- How to risk assess a situation before intervening
- Adopt tactical positioning during conflict to avoid punches & kicks
- Disengage and breakaway from grabs & holds
- Apply safe non restrictive & restrictive physical holding techniques
- Apply both restrictive & non restrictive escorting techniques
- Justify any action taken from a legal moral & ethical stance
- Carry out a full risk analysis of actions taken and report your activity.
- Be trained on the medical implications and risks of physical holding
Skills are taught in a way that enables staff to identify the least physically aversive methods to achieve the required outcomes. Non-aggressive skills calm a potentially violent or disorientated individual, as they do not use pain to gain compliance. Techniques are based on simple yet powerful principles and following training both men and women can apply them confidently to protect colleagues, clients and themselves. But most important of all this Physical Intervention training also explores medical implications of restraint and the law in relation to the use of force, so you can be confident that your staff will never be taught risky techniques that could lead to prosecution by the HSE under the Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007. This programme reinforces the need to utilise non-physical strategies as far as practicable, with physical intervention a last resort.
What are the entry requirements for the course?
Delegates will need to hold a recognised qualification in Conflict Management or have passed a recognised course to work in the security industry such as Security Guarding, Door Supervision, Close Protection, Vehicle Immobilisation. Delegates must also be in reasonable health.
This course can be delivered over one or two days depending on requirements
Recognised development: On successful completion of this course delegates will be issued with a Maybo certificate and where relevant the certificate will be accredited by an awarding body such as City & Guilds, BIIAB, or Skills for Security. All physical intervention skills taught on this programme have undergone expert medical review and are delivered under licence through the Maybo Safer Physical Intervention programme.
